MY WATER CYCLE BY Toby

                The water cycle

The water cycle is a cycle that uses:
1.evaporation. 2.Condensation. 3. Precipitation and  finally collection.  Water  has 3 different states. It’s like the master of disguise 1. The liquid form (water) 2. The solid   form (ice) and finally 3. The gas form. (steam) The water cycle has gone for around 4.1 billion years. That’s  nearly as old as the earth! (The earth is 4..53 BILLION years now that’s old and you thought your parents were ancient! ) So the water you bathe in could be the same water that the dinosaurs drank from. See the glass of water in your hands? The place it came from is endless it could of came from the time that caveman were around and even the time that life first started!

1..EVAPORATION.
Evaporation is a simple part of the water cycle. It basically is water disappearing. So fill a glass of water and leave it outside. In a few weeks the water will disappear. What happened is that the water evaporated. It happened because the heat heats the water and then the water disappears in result of the heat. So if you put the glass of water in a cool place around 4- - 5 degrees it will turn into ice in a few hours and it won’t evaporate it’ll freeze instead because it’s cold. So when the water evaporates, it will form STEAM and if enough water evaporates, it will form a cloud.(or clouds. because of condensation) Over 90% of the vapor comes from seas, oceans, lakes and rivers. The rest is from plants (they sort of sweat) and barely any animals.

2. CONDENSATION
Condensation is the reason why there are beautiful clouds in the sky. So the water vapor rises up and into the sky, but if the atmosphere is cold the water vapour will turn back into water so clouds are made entirely out of water not steam. Pour a glass of cold water on a hot day and watch what happens. Amazing! Water forms on the outside of the glass. That water didn't somehow leak through the glass! It actually came from the air. Water vapor in the warm air, turns back into liquid when it touches the cold glass. I’ll explain what happened 1. The water evaporates into the air. 2. The water vapor touches the cold glass. 3. The vapor touches the cold glass and then it condensates.

3.PRECIPITATION

Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow. 78% of global precipitation occurs over the ocean. precipitation is a major part of the water cycle and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the planet. Approximately 505,000 km of water falls as precipitation each year. Precipitation is the reason why we get fresh water every year. Without precipitation lakes, rivers and  oceans would dry up and then sea creatures would die every minute. Don’t think precipitation is bad weather. Without it there will be no water as well as food. You would be dead if there was no precipitation. There would also be no seafood,     food, water and any other food because animals eat grass (the herbivores) and carnivores eat them. so everything would die in less than a few days.

4..COLLECTION
Collection is the end of the water cycle. If there wasn't collection the water cycle wouldn't be called the water cycle right? Collection is when the water falls to the ground. Some of the water that falls as precipitation ends in the ocean, river and lake but some falls on the ground. When it falls on the grass, the grass will soak it up and then the water is called "ground water" but if it falls on the concrete the water will evaporate instead. So the groundwater will flow into the river, lake or sea. When water falls back to earth as precipitation, it may fall back in the oceans, lakes or rivers or it may end up on land. When it ends up on land, it will either soak into the earth and become part of the “ground water” that plants and animals use to drink or it may run over the soil and collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers where the cycle starts.
THEN IT STARTS ALL  OVER AGAIN

So the water cycle has been around for a very long time. Dinosaurs weren’t there before the water cycle. Imagine the water cycle had eyes and could talk, it would know everything about the history of the earth it would know the mysteries of the past. It would know how the heads of Easter island were built. Every part of the water cycle is important. People all over the world would want to have water. Some countries have very little water. Like Africa. People don’t have much water there. So they have to walk (they don’t have cars) 2-3 hours a day to get water. So people would be grateful to live in your country. Taps for water that is SO much easier than walking 2-3 hours a day to get water.
